Traffic exchanges and The Boredom Factor

Traffic Exchanges attract a wide cross section of marketers from the wide eyed “newbie” to the seasoned Internet marketing professional.
The “newbie” and many other marketers on low budgets are attracted to the free traffic that Traffic Exchanges offer and are prepared to click for credits. They quickly learn the advantages of multi-tabbed browsing and are lured in to a pattern of constant clicking for credits.
The seasoned internet marketer on the other hand, is more likely to buy some traffic for some tested and proven campaigns, and let the advertising run its course.
The problem for the advertiser is that the is advertising directly to enthusiastic newbies who are determined to gain as much traffic for their business as possible.
After about fifteen minutes, the Traffic Exchange surfer will find it very difficult to remain focussed on the sites appearing before him and regardless of his intentions his mind is likely to drift off to other places.
So how does the advertiser grab the viewers attention?
The easy glib answer is to say “design a squeeze page that will be so different that the viewer is forced to take notice.” My testing has shown to me time and again that squeeze pages have little effect initially, as there seems to be a branding period involved that may take days before the squeeze page registers – this is not a problem if you’re the owner of a major program as your affiliates will brand the page for you in an hour or so but it is a problem if you are a sole operator – you have to realize that branding takes time.
Perhaps the best way to grab your prospect by the eyeballs is to pay for a first or second page view at a major Traffic Exchange – this will guarantee hundreds – if not thousands of page views of your site by viewers when their mind is freshest.
This form of advertising is charged at Premium rated by Traffic Exchanges but may well beworth the expense.
Fresh eyes – a clear message and an opt in form should see lots of subscribers addedto your mailing list for relatively little cost.
It’s a strategy worth considering.

Te teams, building stronger downlines

TE teams was released yesterday I joined and I recommended it to my subscribers.
Having a group of people work together to build a business is not a new concept. There are some problems inherent within such a system and they need to be addressed.

The teams concept contained within TE Teams goes a long way to addressing these problems.

Tim Linden posted a comment on Facebook today explaining the motivation behind TE teams.

I took the time to reply – here is what I wrote.

I really like this concept, I’ve been a fan of 3 step processes for some time and the team concept should help some people get a start.

I joined Lynne M’s team because I reckon you guys don’t need me and she’s really motivated.

I’ve already received a referral to Traffic Wave that I wouldn’t have normally received.

For this concept to work, it needs experienced people like you and I to understand that by nurturing and building their downlines in this “rotator” format they may miss out on growing their list as quickly as they otherwise might,, but there multi level list in a program like TW will be that much stronger because everybody should be getting some reward and encouragement.

I’ve always wanted to implement something like this myself but have never been able to get over the snowball “effect”

By snowball, I mean that as the program grows, it takes longer for the members to ‘get rewarded as it takes longer to cycle.

Motivation drops off and momentum stalls.

The teams concept has the potential to overcome this – it may be worth considering allowing leaders to bump people from teams if they don’t engage in a certain level of activity. I’m not sure how this would work but I’m trying to think of a way to overcome the inertia that may occur when a team reaches a critical mass of members.

Now having the benefit of 20/20 hindsight I can see that TE teams empowers the individual to take control of their own destiny. Let me explain…..

Let’s say that after several weeks within TE Teams Team X , I am getting good referrals to the site but find that my activity level is much greater than the average, I can remove myself from Team X and form my own team, this enables me to get reward for effort and build and maintain a team.

It will be interesting to watch how TE Teams develops, I can see that at some point, I will probably form my own team, right now, I’m comfortable in Lynn’s team as my focus right now is on other areas of development.

Traffic Exchanges & The Free Advertising Lie

When I first got into traffic exchanges, I was directed to them by some “free ad guru/expert/self -proclaimed messiah” (You choose which one fits – the fact is I haven’t seen him around for ages, so I figure he either went broke or got rich and my money is on the former).
Anyway this guy told me in his series of “confidential reports” how easy it was to generate thousands of visitors a day, simply by clicking a few ads.

It was a bald faced lie. He knew it, I now know it and you should know it.

I spent a good little part of my online education relentlessly clicking for ads on TE’s that no longer exist or are on life support and I got maybe 500 visitors a day to my affiliate sites.

Guess what?

I was failing big time.

And it took me a long time to learn the key elements of Traffic Exchange advertising.

Build a mailing list
Nurture the list
Build my own identity
Track my advertising
Buy advertising credits
Leverage my efforts to build viral traffic.

The hardest of these concepts for me to grasp was the buying of credits. After all there’s all that free traffic to be had – isn’t there?

Well actually there is free traffic to be had but it’s not obtained by clicking for credits.
Because time is money.
I know that there are people who spend hour after hour clicking for credits. It’s an easy trap to fall into- after all there are enough program owners who encourage you to advertise their affiliate pages on a traffic exchange and it feels like you’re taking action.

Your time should be worth at least $20 per hour.

Are you consistently clicking for an hour a day and making $20?

If you are you’re doing very well, you’ve got the makings of a good online business, but frankly you’retime could be better spent than just clicking for ads.

Let me give you a practical example.

I make it a habit of manually surfing StatXchange on and off through the day. It gives me a break from the other stuff I’m doing and I like conversing with other surfers in the chat facility.

Because I surf regularly I was able to claim an 80% purchasing bonus

This allowed me to purchase 18000 credits from StartXchange for $60 (10000 credits plus 80% bonus).

Now consider this.

The average free surfer who claims all their bonus’ may earn a surfing ratio of 3 page views for every 4 viewed (it’s probably less, but I’m being generous).
The surf timer is set at 10 seconds. This means that the most possible sites that can be viewed in a full hour would be 360 sites. If we apply the ratio of 3 credits per 4 page views that means the most advertising credits that could be earned in the hour is 270 advertising credits.
To earn 18000 credits at StartXchange would take 66 hours.

Of course free surfing advocates would say you could multi tab browse and you could, but once you start browsing more than six sites at the most your surfing efficiency falls drastically. Even if you surfed super efficiently on six tabs it would take you at least eleven hours to earn 18000 advertising credits.

That’s $240 worth of your time – and if you’re advertising an affiliate based program its time totally wasted.

What will that $60 make me?

I can confidently predict that the advertising campaign I’m running will deliver me somewhere between $60 and $100 initially- and that’s a handy return on Investment right there, but where it really comes in to its own is the leads that the program will generate and the potential long term customers that I can build by being honest and sincere in my communications with them.

There is still an added benefit. My time is my own to work on other aspects of my busines, be they product reviews, other advertising mediums, blog updates or, in my case currently begin to learn a set of new skills.

You can’t do any of those things while you’re clicking for credits. Clicking for credits is not free – it costs you time- and time is money.

So is there free traffic to be had on Traffic Exchanges.

Yes, it’s in the downline builder capacity that they offer.

Consistently recommend quality downline builders like Traffic Hoopla , Affiliate Funnel or Traffic exchange List and over time you will build real free traffic.

Tony Tezak’s Traffic Exchange Solutions.

The Traffic Exchange Big Boys (what I like to call the usual suspects) are falling over themselves promoting Tony Tezak’s re-brandable eBook Traffic Exchange Solutions and it would be remiss of me not to take a look.

I like and admire Tony Tezak. He is a living example of what single minded determination can do and his site TezakTraffic Power certainly has proven to be a success.

The eBook itself speaks many truths and is a good no nonsense handbook of how to market successfully on Traffic Exchanges. There are some good tips in there about using squeeze pages, building your list, tracking etcetera.

The book is freely available, but to purchase re-branding rights costs.

However, I have a few minor reservations about recommending purchasing the re-branding rights.
Firstly this book is 15 pages long. In fifteen pages, it tells you what to do it doesn’t show you how. Yes if you purchase the eBook re-branding rights and distribute it regularly you will build downline and maybe make the occasional commission with it, but the other problem I see and I’m sure Tony will disagree, is that I don’t believe that the eBook gives all possible alternatives in relation to Traffic Exchange products and services.

There is no mention of Traffic Hoopla, (hardly surprising as Tony is closely affiliated with Affiliate Funnel which sees itself as direct competition to Hoopla), no mention of alternative ad tracking sources other than TE toolbox (which is effective, but not necessarily the most effective) and no mention of the new splash page creation product called AdKreator. (I haven’t got round to reviewing it myself, but it certainly looks better than TE toolbox)

Now, Tony is giving his recommendations based upon his experience and I respect that, but I also just a little tired of what is either by accident or design is becoming a Traffic Exchange/Affiliate Funnel cartel.
It seems that there isn’t a week go by when one of this inner sanctum, releases a new re-brandable eBook, or piece of software that they all mail out buy recommendations for.

You know who they are and frankly if you’ve received an email from more than one of them in the past 48 hours with exactly the same headline then chances are that they don’t even respect you or Tony enough to have even read the book.

Seriously you only need to be on one of the Cartel’s list. They all say the same thing, all recommend the same products, all use the same headlines.

If somebody is going to recommend that you buy or download something, the least they could do is take the time to at least personalize the recommended emails in the product areas.

I like balance and I like competition that’s why I like Traffic Hoopla even though there are some doubts about their tracking mechanisms, that’s why I like Vital Viral Pro, that’s why I like Hit2Hit, Hits Booster Pro, and programs like Hit toad that just keep the big TE owners looking over their shoulder.

I also like Affiliate Funnel, but it isn’t the only alternative.

Yes Tony Tezak’s book is worth the read, yes his recommendations are sound, would I pay to re-brand it? No.

Not when you can rebrand my own eBook for free – an eBook that I think not only gives a more balanced view of the Traffic Exchange industry and enables you to update your affiliate links as circumstances change but also shows you how to do things with video instruction.

But of course I’m biased. Why not compare both and see which one gives you better value.

500 advertising credits in 15 minutes

Traffic Exchange Marketing can be very labor intensive, unless you have an advertising budget and even if you do, you want to make every post a winner, you want to get the absolute maximum bang for your buck, or the best reward for your time and effort.

There are tools that can help you get the most out of your surfing time.
Multi tabbed browsing with Firefox and the use of free optimization tools like Quick Tab Change will help you surf in the most efficient manner.

But there are ways you may not be using to increase your traffic delivery and they involve the use of Traffic Bars.

I am going to use three different tools to show you how you can increase your advertising exposure by 4 times the amount.

Let’s assume that you are advertising a product on a traffic exchange and for argument’s sake let’s assume that you are a free member at that exchange and the surfing ration is 2:1. Simply put that means that for every two pages you view, the exchange will advertise your page once.

Let’s also assume that the surf timer is set to 10 seconds

So after 15 minutes at optimum surfing speed, you will have viewed 90 pages and earned 45 page views at that Traffic Exchange.

Now, let’s assume that you’ve chosen to advertise your page using a Viral Traffic Bar link just like this link here.

Now what happens is that when your advertising page is displayed on the Traffic Exchange you earn an advertising credit for every unique visitor that the exchange sends to your site. Potentially you could earn another 45 page advertisements right there with Viral Traffic Bar with absolutely no more effort on your part, And viral Traffic Bar is getting great click through rates too!

First off, you have to acknowledge that there will be some lag in surfing efficiency with 5 exchanges open, but with quick tab change I think you can minimize the time loss so that instead of viewing 90 pages on each exchange you may view 85.

Let’s do some maths
85 pages viewed over 5 exchanges = 425 page views.
These 425 page views will earn you a total of 212 advertisements across the 5 exchanges.
The 425 page views will also earn you 106 advertising credits at Free Traffic Bar and 106 advertising credits at Instant Buzz
Those 212 advertisements will also earn you 106 advertisements at Viral Traffic Bar.
Plus (because you don’t miss a trick the ads on Free Traffic Bar and instant Buzz when they’re clicked on will earn you even more advertising credits at Viral Traffic Bar.
That means that in 15 minutes you will have earned at the very least over 500 advertising credits over a variety channels and networks in 15 minutes.
